Credibility in Conversations
Tip #7 discussed an easy conversation starter with donors called a Charitable IRA Rollover. The immediate tax benefit of writing a check from your IRA to a charitable organization are quite obvious, but there’s a lot more benefits depending on the donor’s cirucmstances.
One such benefit is that Charitable IRA Rollovers may lower your donor’s Medicare premiums. RMDs (see Tip #5 for the acronymn) are included in our tax returns as part of the Adjusted Gross Income. This is what is used to calculate your Medicare Part B and Part D in the future. Unlike our taxes that use a graduated scale, the reduction of Medicare premium uses income thresholds to determine the cost. The income threshhold tables are modified to keep up with inflation, but you can find the most up-to-date ones are https://www.medicare.gov.
Make it a habit to ask if donors know how a Charitable IRA Rollover could reduce their Medicare premium to increase your credibility and engagement!
